First, the pharmacist will carefully examine your ear canal to inspect for any infection. He will then confirm that you have an excess wax that requires to be removed.
Secondly, you will be given a prescription for an oil product that softens ear wax. Use it for a few days to soften the wax in your ear canal. You can also use other oils, for instance, olive oil, baby oil, mineral oil, or hydrogen peroxide.
Lastly, when you return to the pharmacy, they will use a syringe-like tool to spritz a water and saline mixture into your ear. This will dislodge the wax and flush it out.
Ear syringing normally takes a few minutes to complete. Although it feels a little unusual, you shouldn’t experience any discomfort or pain. However, let the pharmacist know in case of any pain, as this may be a sign of an infection.
